Your test kit contains everything you need to collect your sample at home and return it to the laboratory — no additional supplies required. This article describes the standard components found in most kits, explains why contents vary by test type, and tells you what to do before you start collecting if something is missing or damaged.

Standard kit components

The table below describes the items you will typically find in your kit and what each one is for. Your specific kit may include a subset of these items depending on the test you ordered.

Item

What it's for

Instruction card

Step-by-step collection directions for your specific test, plus your Kit ID and registration information

Collection materials

The items you use to collect your sample — vary by test type (see below)

Transport pouch (specimen bag)

A protective sealed bag that holds your collected sample during return shipping

Prepaid return mailer

A pre-labeled envelope or box for mailing your sample back to the laboratory — no postage needed

Collection materials by test type

Collection materials vary based on the type of sample your test requires. Common examples include:

  • Blood (finger-prick): Sterile single-use lancets, a collection card or collection tube, alcohol wipes, gauze pads, and a bandage.

  • Saliva: A saliva collection tube with a funnel or cap.

  • Urine: A urine collection container and, in some kits, a transfer pipette.

  • Swab: One or more sterile swabs and a collection tube.

Always follow the instruction card included in your specific kit. The instruction card is printed for your exact test type and takes precedence over any general guidance.

Before you start collecting: Check your kit

Before you begin collection, verify that your kit is complete and all items are undamaged. If any of the following are missing or damaged, do not start collecting:

  • Instruction card

  • Collection materials (lancets, tubes, swabs, or whichever applies to your test)

  • Transport pouch (specimen bag)

  • Prepaid return mailer

If anything is missing or damaged, contact our support team through chat before proceeding. We will send you a replacement. Do not mail your sample without the transport pouch and the prepaid return label — if either is missing, stop and contact support first.
