Ship your sample the same day you collect it whenever possible — or the next day at the latest. Samples have stability limits, and the sooner yours reaches the lab, the better your chances of complete, accurate results on the first try.
This article is for members who have finished collecting their sample and are deciding when to return it.
Why timing matters
Every test has a stability window — the amount of time after collection during which a sample can still be reliably analyzed. If your sample arrives at the lab after that window closes, the lab will reject it as "exceeds stability" and you will need to collect again.
If a sample is rejected for exceeding stability, a free replacement kit will be sent on the same order — but it delays your results. Shipping promptly is the best way to avoid this.
Timing rules to follow
Follow all four of these guidelines:
Collect in the morning unless your kit instructions say otherwise. Complete all required preparation before you begin collection — for blood collection cards, that includes allowing the full drying time before packaging.
Ship the same day you collect. Same-day shipping gives your sample the most time to travel within its stability window.
If you cannot ship the same day, store the sealed transport pouch (the specimen bag from your kit) in a cool, dry place and ship as soon as possible — the next day at the latest.
Consider the day of the week. Collecting and shipping early in the week — Monday through Thursday — helps your sample avoid sitting in transit over a weekend when carrier and lab schedules may be reduced. Check your kit instructions, as some tests are stricter about this than others.
Do not collect your sample and leave it unshipped for multiple days. A late sample is one of the most common reasons for lab rejection.
What to do if you have already shipped late
If your sample was collected several days ago or appears stuck in transit, contact the support team right away. The team will check whether your sample is still within its stability window. If a new collection is needed, a free replacement kit will be arranged on the same order.
