If one of your results comes back abnormal, a licensed physician reviews it and the care team may reach out to you directly — by phone, email, or text — to discuss it and possible next steps. An abnormal result means a value is outside the typical reference range. It does not automatically mean something is seriously wrong, but it does mean the result gets a closer look from a physician.
What happens after an abnormal result, step by step
Here is what the process looks like once the lab returns an abnormal result:
The lab completes your test and marks the result as abnormal.
The licensed physician assigned to your test reviews the abnormal or critical result.
If follow-up would help you, the physician's team contacts you — this may be a phone call, email, or text — to talk through the result and what it may mean.
Depending on your program, you may be offered a consult to discuss the result in more detail.
After the physician's team contacts you, they will explain what the result means and what next steps are available to you.
What you can do
While you wait to hear from the care team, you can:
View your results in your member portal or the app — abnormal values are typically flagged
Download your PDF results report and share it with your own doctor for additional context
Contact our support team through chat if you have questions or want to speak with someone sooner
What to watch for
The care team may contact you by phone, email, or text. Watch for communication from us after you receive an abnormal result. If you are concerned and have not heard from us within 1–2 business days of seeing an abnormal result in your portal, contact our support team through chat.
Important limits of these tests
These tests are for wellness and health optimization, not for diagnosing disease. If you feel unwell, have symptoms, or have an urgent medical concern, do not wait for the care team to contact you — reach out to your own healthcare provider or call emergency services right away.
