Set up a clean workspace
A tidy, well-lit workspace prevents contamination and keeps you from losing small components mid-collection.
Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching any kit components.
Choose a clean, flat surface at a comfortable height.
Lay out every item from your kit before you begin so nothing is missing.
If something is missing or visibly damaged, take a photo and send it to our support team through chat. We will confirm whether you can proceed or arrange a replacement.
Label everything correctly
Write your name, date of birth, and collection date on the collection container and any barcode sticker that came with your kit. Use a blue or black ballpoint pen — not a felt-tip, marker, or dry-erase pen. Unlabeled or illegible samples are rejected by the lab, which requires you to recollect.
Store and return your sample promptly
Follow your kit's storage instructions exactly. Some samples refrigerate, some freeze, and some stay at room temperature.
For blood collection cards, let the card dry completely before sealing it in its bag.
Return your sample the same day you collect it whenever possible.
Avoid mailing on a Friday or the day before a holiday unless your kit specifically says it is acceptable. Samples that sit in transit over a weekend can degrade.
Take your time
Most collection problems happen when people rush. Warm hands, steady technique, and following each step in the right order give you the best chance of a successful first attempt. If your flow slows or something looks wrong, pause and re-read the relevant step before continuing.
