At-home lab tests are available to adults in the United States who meet three eligibility requirements and pass a short health intake screening during kit registration. This article explains the requirements, describes a few health situations to consider before ordering, and tells you what to expect if your intake screening raises a question.
The three eligibility requirements
To take an at-home lab test, you must meet all three of the following:
Age 18 or older. At-home tests are designed for adults only. Tests are not available to anyone under 18.
Located in the United States. Your sample must be collected and returned from within the United States. Availability may vary in certain states due to state-level regulations. If your state is not supported, you will be notified at the time of ordering.
Completed health intake screening. When you register your kit, you will answer a short health intake questionnaire. A licensed physician uses your answers to confirm the test is appropriate for you and to authorize your order. If your answers indicate the test is not right for you, our support team will contact you to explain why and help determine next steps.
Health situations to consider before ordering
Certain health situations may affect whether a specific test type is right for you. Review the considerations below before ordering.
Pregnancy: Finger-prick blood collection, saliva collection, and urine collection are generally considered safe during pregnancy. However, follow any guidance from your own healthcare provider if you have questions specific to your pregnancy.
Bleeding disorders or blood thinners: If you have a bleeding disorder or take blood-thinning medication, speak with your healthcare provider before ordering a test that requires self-collected blood.
History of fainting at the sight of blood: If the sight of blood has caused you to feel faint or to faint in the past, we do not recommend tests that require a self-collected blood sample.
At-home testing is for wellness purposes only. It is not a substitute for in-person medical care. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call your local emergency number (911 in the United States) right away.
What happens if I don't meet an eligibility requirement?
If you do not meet an eligibility requirement — for example, if a state regulation affects your location or if your health intake answers raise a concern — our support team will contact you. We will explain the issue clearly and, where possible, help you identify an alternative path.
